Soil erosion is a major environmental problem in Moldova. Local authorities are struggling with the amount and complexity of necessary afforestation work. We try to offer a contribution to tackling this problem through an extensive volunteering aciton. The Mayor of the village Bubuieci has been very pro-active and cooperative in setting-up the planting event. He has agreed to convert 5 ha of community agricultural land into forest and the village promises to take care of it.
The experience of this year will help us acquire skills and networks for further and larger-scale afforestation activities.
On November 14 we will organize one of the biggest reforestation action with volunteers in Moldova.
We’ve been inspired and guided by the Romanian national initiative „Plantam fapte bune in Romania“ which has the goal to gather 50.000 volunteers and plant 1 mln trees on degraded lands in 21 regions. We will start small with a single planting site near Chisinau. Optimistically, we propose to plant approximately 5 hectares, 10.000 trees, with 400 volunteers. We want also to intercalate nut and berries varieties to create a Fruit Forest for more benefits for the community. The planting action is authorised and technically supported by Uniunea Asociatiilor Producatorilor de Culturi Nucifere din Republica Moldova.
